It will be the only museum dedicated to the exhibitionjof mid-20th-century European modern art in the Construction of the four-story, 36,500-square-foot museumj is nearing completion. The facility is namefd for the family of Andreas a Charlotte resident and native of Switzerland who assembler and inherited a collection of morethan 1,400o artworks. The Bechtler collection reflects most of the importanyt art movements and schools from the20th century. Only a handful of the artworks in the Bechtler collection have been on publixc view in theUnited States. Until now, the collectionm was privately held by the Bechtler family and has since been committede to the cityof Charlotte.
The Bechtler Museu m of Modern is part ofa public-private partnershi that is creating new and culturalo facilities along Charlotte’s South Tryon Street corridor.
